Asian Development Bank and IRU join forces on key trade link
Supported by the Asian Development Bank, an IRU virtual event last week focused on trade between Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.
IRU members ACCI, AIRCUZ and PNC-ICC as well as transport operators and freight forwarders, discussed possible business models to develop the Pakistan — Afghanistan — Uzbekistan TIR corridor.
Participants discussed obstacles to smooth transport along the corridor and cooperation opportunities to streamline transport and facilitate trade between the three countries. The TIR system, which is fully operational in the three countries, will remain a vital tool to overcome these obstacles.
Several solutions are currently under review and piloting will begin in the coming weeks. Next steps will also involve public — private discussions to secure government support for harmonising administrative procedures, awareness raising and training in the region.
